DESIGN NOTES · BMW AIRHEAD
How does Diamond Atelier hide the battery on a BMW Airhead?
Diamond Atelier has two discreet LFP starter-battery solutions for suitable BMW Airhead builds: a slim battery housed in a carbon tube that can be placed inside a suitable frame tube, and a compact LFP pouch pack mounted beside the mo.unit carrier beneath the tank. The choice is made around the individual motorcycle and its electrical layout.

OUR BATTERY SOLUTION
Two discreet LFP starter-battery solutions
The first option uses a slim LFP starter battery in a carbon tube, positioned within a suitable frame tube. The second uses an LFP pouch pack mounted to the side of our mo.unit carrier beneath the tank. Both approaches can free the visible frame triangle and let the battery become part of a deliberate electrical design.
We select and validate the position on the actual motorcycle. Frame and tank clearance, secure mounting, protected connections, electrical requirements and service access must all suit the chosen configuration. Neither solution is presented as a universal fit.

Dedicated mounts for the mo.unit and Silent Hektik ignition
Our dedicated mo.unit holder places the control unit beneath the tank. Our gearbox-mounted electronics plate is designed to carry the Silent Hektik digital ignition and its associated ignition coil. The build can retain the original alternator and regulator.
These defined positions free the original battery area and keep the motorcycle's lines calm. Battery choice, wiring routes, protection, clearances and future access are planned together with the visible design. The exact arrangement depends on the motorcycle and its electrical specification.
THE DIAMOND ATELIER APPROACH
Clean design comes from engineered decisions
A premium BMW Airhead build is more than a hidden battery. We coordinate the LFP battery, mo.unit, ignition, charging components, wiring and bodywork as one system, so the finished machine expresses a clear Diamond Atelier design language.
Each commission starts with the rider, the motorcycle and a moodboard of visual influences. We accept only a small number of projects each year. The exact electrical layout is developed for the individual build, with planning typically at least 12 months ahead.

BMW Airhead battery and electronics questions
Where can a BMW Airhead starter battery be hidden?
Diamond Atelier offers two LFP layouts for suitable builds: a slim battery inside a carbon tube in a suitable frame tube, or a pouch pack beside the mo.unit carrier under the tank. We confirm fit and electrical suitability for each motorcycle.
Where does Diamond Atelier place the mo.unit?
We use a dedicated holder beneath the tank for the mo.unit. Its integration is planned together with the battery and the rest of the electrical system.
Where do the Silent Hektik ignition and coil go?
For builds using Silent Hektik digital ignition, our gearbox-mounted electronics plate carries the ignition unit and its associated coil. This arrangement can work with the original alternator and regulator; the final layout is planned for the specific motorcycle.
Does the same layout fit every BMW Airhead?
No. Each base motorcycle calls for its own packaging. See the R100R-based Mark II Evo and R65-based Groot. The R nineT-based Urban21 shows how another platform leads to a different design brief.
