What does oil in the airbox mean?
The BMW two-valve Boxer routes crankcase gases through a breather system. Some oil mist can arrive in the intake tract, but a new or excessive amount deserves investigation. Check oil level and whether it has been overfilled, breather condition, hose routing, airbox condition and engine symptoms before replacing parts.
Would an open breather filter solve it?
An open filter changes where gases and oil mist go; it does not fix the cause of excessive blow-by or a failed breather. Its position, drainage, heat exposure and maintenance affect the result. Any discharge must be kept away from the rear tyre, brakes and hot surfaces. Market-specific emissions and road-use rules also affect suitability.
What could Diamond Atelier offer?
We are developing an individual open crankcase-breather filter solution for suitable BMW 2V builds. The connection, hose and mounting position would be selected and tested for the actual motorcycle. Until that work is complete, it is an enquiry, not a universal ready-to-fit shop product.
What should an owner send?
Provide the BMW model and year, current airbox or intake layout, oil level history and clear photos of the breather and observed oil. That distinguishes a packaging request from an engine-diagnosis problem. Other Airhead packaging choices are described in our electronics article.
Question behind this article
The recurring issue is oil in the BMW 2V airbox; owners also discuss R100GS breather routing.
