BMW Airhead custom motorcycles

A classic two-valve Boxer can become a singular premium motorcycle when every line, component and mechanical decision serves one clear vision. The BMW R100R-based Mark II Evo shows how Diamond Atelier approaches that challenge.

THE PLATFORM

BMW R100R: the basis of the Mark II Evo

Our Mark II Evo series uses the BMW R100R Paralever as its starting point. We rebuild the 1,000 cc Boxer, refine the stance and develop the details around a deliberately restrained silhouette. Its identity comes from Diamond Atelier’s design and engineering, not from a catalogue of accessories.

The R100R belongs to the BMW Airhead family: air-cooled, two-cylinder Boxer motorcycles with two valves per cylinder. In German, enthusiasts often call them BMW 2V or BMW Zweizylinder. The architecture is instantly recognisable; the finished motorcycle should still be unmistakably Diamond Atelier.

A DIFFERENT STARTING POINT

Considering a BMW R100GS custom project?

The BMW R100GS is another important chapter in the two-valve Boxer story. BMW Group Classic describes its 1,000 cc Boxer, Paralever rear suspension and cross-spoke wheels as defining features. Its GS purpose suggests a different design brief from the road-focused R100R.

The Mark II Evo is based on the R100R, not the R100GS. A customer-owned R100GS can be the starting point for a conversation about an individual DA Build, but we accept a project only when its purpose, proportions and engineering fit the Diamond Atelier DNA. We do not present an R100GS build here as an existing series model.

OUR APPROACH

Luxury is in the decisions you can see—and those you cannot

Diamond Atelier works at the intersection of design, engineering and craftsmanship. We create a small number of motorcycles each year. Some belong to a limited series; a DA Build is a one-off shaped by our own handwriting. Every project begins with a conversation about the rider, the intended use and the character the machine should express.

A moodboard is essential. It can be a Pinterest board, PDF or image collection. Motorcycles are welcome, but so are architecture, fashion, art, colours, materials and details. Those references help us understand the person behind the commission. Planning typically extends at least 12 months ahead.

COMMON QUESTIONS

BMW Airhead and 2V Boxer questions

What does BMW Airhead mean?

It is the enthusiast name for BMW’s classic air-cooled Boxer motorcycles. The R100R and R100GS are both part of this broader two-valve Boxer tradition.

Is the Mark II Evo based on a BMW R100R or R100GS?

The Mark II Evo shown on this site is based on the BMW R100R Paralever. The R100GS is a separate model and is not the basis of that series.

Can I request a BMW R100GS custom bike?

You can share your idea and moodboard with us. Diamond Atelier reviews individual DA Build concepts selectively and decides which projects fit its design language and engineering standards.

What other BMW custom motorcycles does Diamond Atelier make?

Alongside the R100R-based Mark II Evo, Groot uses a BMW 248-type frame and rebuilt R65 Boxer, while Urban21 is based on the modern BMW R nineT.
